Bidding farewell to Fort Campbell From Bob Worth, Go Army Homes

From Bob Worth, Go Army Homes

It is a bitter sweet moment for the Volesky Family as we say goodbye to this amazing community and depart for Joint Base Lewis-McChord.  Leann and I would like to offer our heart warmed thanks and appreciation to the Soldiers, Families, DOD civilians, local and state leaders, and all those who comprise the wonderful Fort Campbell Community.  The support you have given us, the 101st Airborne Division, and the Fort Campbell Garrison over the last two and half years has been remarkable.

Thanks to your unwavering service this storied Division has repeatedly answered the nation’s call as we supported operations around the world.  Your efforts have made all the difference as we deployed to support the U.S. State Department and USAID eradicate Ebola in Africa as part of Operation United Assistance, to defeat the threat of global terrorism in Operation Freedom’s Sentinel and Operation Resolute Support, and to help restore Iraq’s sovereignty in Operation Inherent Resolve.

We are now operating in one of the most complex operating environments of our time. There are threats all around us, requiring our Army to remain agile, flexible, and ready to deploy, fight, and win anywhere at any time and that is what Fort Campbell provides. Thanks to your support we have established a premier force projection platform that houses the best trained, most highly disciplined, and agile and adaptable units in our Army. With the only Air Assault Division in the world, we provide an unmatched forcible entry capability to the nation.

We have this capability because of the support of over 1,500 friends of Fort Campbell who participated in our community listening session. Your overwhelming support for this post is a testament to the superb partnership between the Army and this community, helping convince senior leaders to seek cuts elsewhere.

In 2016 the Army recognized Fort Campbell as the installation of the year.  We could not do that without the support of the local, state, and federal community leaders, business owners, and concerned citizens.  In my 30 plus years of service it has been my pleasure to live at a number of bases around the world, and none of them compare when it comes to community support.  It does not matter if we are talking about going green, saving energy or putting up a fight to save jobs.  From Clarksville to Hopkinsville and Oak Grove the support has been phenomenal.

As we depart Fort Campbell for the last time, my family and I thank you for your commitment to the Army and to this team. It has been an honor to serve with each and every last one of you and I look forward to our next “rendezvous with destiny.” Thank you.

Screaming Eagles! Air Assault!
